Welcome to Bridgeport!
As Connecticut's largest city, Bridgeport combines the rich history of a powerful industrial center with a stunning diversity of people and their cultures. Known as the "Arsenal of Democracy" during World War II for our strong manufacturing base, today our city is undergoing an exciting economic and cultural renaissance. Named one of America's "100 Best Communities for Young People" by America's Promise in September 2005, Bridgeport is proud to have been recognized for our efforts to provide a healthy, safe, and caring environment for our children.
Some of the top choices for visitors around the city include:
Captain's Cove Seaport 1 Bostwick Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06605 203-335-1433 Since 1982, Captain's Cove Seaport has grown from a vacant lot and a handful of slips to one of Connecticut's premier tourist attractions and seaport complexes. Located on Historic Black Rock Harbor, we are an active maritime and amusement center. There's no admission fee here and we're casual.
The Klein Memorial Auditorium 910 Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06605 203-576-8115 The 1,400 seat theatre opened in 1940, built from funds willed to the City by Bridgeport resident Jacob Klein. The Klein has played host to programs ranging in scope from symphonies, operas, and theatre, to local dance recitals, graduations, and union meetings.
Beardsley Zoo 1875 Noble Ave, Bridgeport, CT 06610 203 394 6565 Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo provides a wonderfully wild experience for families, students and you! We have a proud history of over 80 years as Connecticut's only zoo. And, as an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and participant in its Species Survival Plan (SSP), we are committed to the preservation of endangered animals and are continually developing strategies that will protect species and preserve their wild habitats. Open year-round and exhibiting almost 300 animals - including several endangered species such as tigers and bears - the Zoo is a great place to spend the day (and to visit often for our many special events).
