Englewood Information

Englewood, Colorado is a small city near the Rocky Mountains and has a population of a little over 30,000. In the late 1800s Englewood was called Orchard Place. Orchard Place was full of gambling, saloons, fancy women and roadhouses. The town was crime-ridden. In 1903, efforts were undertaken to clean up the town. Part of that effort included forming a government and a city, and incorporation took place on May 13, 1903. At that time Orchard Place was then renamed Englewood, meaning "wooded nook." That name was chosen because the area had an abundance of trees.
