Welcome to Frederick!
Frederick, Maryland is the second largest city in the state of Maryland. This charming town of approximately 50,000 dates back to the mid 18th century. It is a major antique center with many shops, eateries, galleries and antique dealers.
Some of the city's top choices for visitors include:
Hessian Barracks 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21701 301-228-2888 A Revolutionary war prison and Civil War hospital. Historians believe the Hessian Barracks were built during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). The L-shaped two-story stone structure with gallery porches is what remains of the original building that was demolished in 1870 to supply materials for the Maryland School for the Deaf building adjacent to the barracks.
Baker Park 121 N. Bentz St, Frederick, MD 21701 301-694-1492 Downtown Frederick's 44-acre park features a carillon, band shell, tennis courts, multi-purpose, softball and baseball field, Culler Lake, a public swimming pool, and numerous playgrounds for children. Park features concerts and children's theater in the summer and numerous outdoor events throughout the year.
Community Bridge Mural Frederick, MD 21701 301-228-2888 The Community Bridge mural project transformed a plain concrete bridge in Frederick, Maryland, near Washington D.C., into the stunning illusion of an old stone bridge. Artist William Cochran and his assistants painted the entire structure by hand, using advanced trompe l'oeil ("deceive the eye") techniques. Many people walk by it and never realize they have been fooled.
