Lewisville Transportation

The Lewisville area is served by a state-of-the-art highway system, the hub of a vast and efficient transportation network. Lewisville itself is surrounded by major highways that provide excellent travel in any direction. Interstate 35E (Stemmons Freeway) provides access south to Carrollton, Farmers' Branch and Dallas, and north to Lake Dallas, Corinth and Denton. President George Bush Turnpike (State Highway 190), the east-west freeway across northern Dallas, intersects I-35E, easily joining Lewisville with Garland, on the far eastern edge of the Metroplex. I-35E also intersects Interstate 635 (LBJ Freeway), which is the major business loop around Dallas. State Highway 121 travels north and south, getting travelers from Lewisville to DFW Airport in less than 10 minutes. The recent Dallas North Tollway extension from I-635 joins SH-121 slightly to the northeast of the city. Farm Road 3040 (Round Grove Road) provides westbound travel from I-35E to International Parkway and Long Prairie Road (Farm Road 2499) in Flower Mound. Farm Road 1171 (Main Street) runs east-west and connects I-35E in Lewisville to I-35W in the western part of Denton County. Farm Road 407 (Justin Road) runs west from I-35E in Lewisville all the way to the Denton/Wise county line. Improvements to I-35E, including expanding to 10 main lanes with three-lane frontage roads in each direction, will soon be a reality. Additional improvements to Highway 121, including an expansion to six main lanes, are in progress.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is the third-busiest airport in the world. Nonstop service to more than 160 international and domestic destinations is available to residents of the Metroplex. The airport is within an easy drive from Dallas (17 miles), Fort Worth (22 miles) and Lewisville (5 miles). More than 52 million passengers and more than 730,000 tons of cargo come through the airport each year, with more than 2,000 flights daily. Other major Metroplex airports include Love Field (Dallas); Meacham Field (Fort Worth); Denton Municipal Airport; Dallas Executive Airport (formerly Redbird Airport); Addison Airport; the Garland Heliplex; and Alliance Airport (Fort Worth), the Western Hemisphere's first purely industrial airport. All are located within 30 miles of Lewisville.

The Kansas City Southern Railroad and the Dallas, Garland & Northeastern Railroad provide cargo service to Lewisville. Amtrak provides passenger service, with daily service to multiple destinations from downtown Dallas' Union Station.

Intercity long-range bus service in the Metroplex is provided by Greyhound-Trailways Bus Lines. In addition, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) buses stop in nearby Carrollton, and Dial-A-Ride Transit Service provides transportation for elderly and handicapped persons.
