Oakland Museum of California
At the Oakland Museum of California, visitors can easily spend the afternoon checking out the fabulous collections of California art, history and nature. The museum features an extensive art collection as well as a history collection that houses more than a million objects and artifacts. In the nature section, visitors can walk through recreated environments. The museum also offers many fun hands-on activities for children as well as a restaurant and gift shop.

Paramount Theatre
Situated downtown Oakland, the Paramount Theatre is popular for its outstanding example of Art Deco style. Built in 1931, the theatre features a capacity of more than 3,000 seats, including orchestra and balcony seating. Guests can watch classical movies here as well as a variety of live performances of ballet, symphony, jazz, gospel, blues, rock and roll, comedy and special events. Public tours are offered twice a month while private tours can be scheduled.

Fairyland
Fairyland is a wonderful place to take the children for a whole day of fun and engaging activity. Covering ten acres, Fairyland is an outdoor theme park where classic children's books and nursery rhymes are brought to life. More than thirty vivid, make-believe lands are animated from classics like Captain Hook, Alice in Wonderland and more. The park features numerous interactive sets where children can play, touch and climb such as a fairy tunnel, pirate ship and dragon slide. There are also puppet and magic shows as well as performances by local children's theater groups. Additionally, guests can visit live animals, ride the Ferris wheel, enjoy lunch in the cafe and browse the gift shop.

Oakland Zoo
Situated within Knowland Park, the Oakland Zoo is a great attraction for the whole family. Sheltering nearly 700 animals, birds and reptiles in recreated natural habitats, guests can see the likes of elephants, monkeys, lions, exotic parrots and tree frogs. The zoo also features a lift where guests can ride over the African habitat to observe camels, tigers and more. Children can pet stingrays in a pool and get up close with various animals in the petting zoo.

Chabot Space and Science Center
Just minutes from downtown Oakland, the Chabot Space and Science Center offers a fun way to learn about science and astronomy. Visitors can observe the stars through the center's three powerful telescopes as well as watch dazzling shows in the domed, digital planetarium and theater.
