Welcome to Richmond

The city of Richmond is the capitol of Virginia, and currently has a population of nearly 1.3 million people in the city and surrounding areas. This population makes Richmond the third largest city in the state of Virginia and the 44th largest city in the country. Richmond has become a popular tourist attraction due to the multiple historic sites located in the city.

If you are planning on visiting Richmond, it may be best to avoid the months of December, January and February. These are the only three months that the temperatures will drop below freezing on a regular basis. Richmond will receive about 10 inches of snowfall each year, and it will almost all fall during these three months. Richmond is known for having rather mild weather the rest of the year, so that would be the perfect time to visit. The temperatures will not get too hot during the day or too cold during the night.

Some of the best attractions to visit in Richmond are the Museum of the Confederacy, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and Richmond National Battlefield Park. The Richmond National Battlefield Park was established in 1938, and is designed to show visitors what life was like during the Civil War. The Richmond National Battlefield Park includes 13 different sites. These 13 sites consist of a museum, historic hospital and several different Civil War battle locations.

Since Richmond was the capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War, it is a perfect spot for the Museum of the Confederacy. The Museum of the Confederacy was established in 1896, and includes a tour of the White House of the Confederacy. The White House of the Confederacy was built in 1818, and was completed restored to its appearance during the war in 1988. The museum also includes pictures, artifacts and manuscripts that date back to the Civil War.

After you have seen the great Civil War attractions that Richmond has to offer, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is a great place to visit. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts was established in 1932, and currently has over 22,000 items on display. Some of the most popular collections in the museum revolve around African, American, Ancient, East Asian and European Art. There is also a theater located in the Virgina Museum of Fine Arts that holds various live performances and shows classic films throughout the year.
