Welcome to Rutherford

Located where Kip Avenue and Ames Avenue meet, the Williams Center for the Performing Arts is the cultural hub of Rutherford, NJ. As part of its impressive, beautiful facilities, there are two live performance theaters, a concert hall and an outdoor performance space. Families often take children to see special youth-oriented performances there.

The Nereid Boat Club is located on the Passaic River. This calm water rowing site offers competitive and recreational rowing. Felician, the Franciscan College of New Jersey, has a campus in Rutherford. About 12,00 students attend classes on the site of the former Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Sports lovers just love the Rutherford area for two reasons: horse racing and NFL football. Just five minutes away, the Meadowlands Race Track is in Rutherford's 'backyard'. You can either drive or take a quick taxi ride. The Meadowlands is one of the most historical horse racing venues. Some visitors go for the gambling; others go to experience a unique New Jersey cultural phenomenon. Tickets are downright cheap unless it's a big event. In season, races are held most Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The NFL MetLife Stadium is also in the Meadowlands. This stadium was built beside the old Giants stadium, which has since been torn down. Since 2010, it has been home to both the New York Giants and the New York Jets. It is also slated to host Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. It is not a domed stadium, but it got the chance to host the big game anyway due to its prestigious location. Off-season, the stadium is used for wrestling, soccer or concerts.

The Izod Center in the Meadowlands is another frequent destination for Rutherford visitors. It hosts everything from concerts to Disney on Ice. There are events scheduled almost every night of the week. The Izod Center is no longer home to NBA or NHL action. Luckily for Rutherford visitors, it's still easy to catch the New Jersey Nets or the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center in nearby Newark
