Welcome to Santa Clara

A purple building that grabs your attention as soon as you pull up, the 52,000 square feet Children's Discovery Museum uses themes of community and creativity to help mold the minds of children. Opened in 1990, the museum's self-directed exhibits are entertaining for children of all ages and with many different types of interests. The Mammoth Exhibit features the bones of Lupe, a mammoth that was discovered by a hiker in the area. Art Loft offers hands-on art projects where children can get their hands dirty while Bubbles allows interactive learning about the physics of bubbles. New exhibits are added each year and all exhibits are wheelchair-accessible.

For a more adult attraction, there are several wineries in the Santa Clara area. Established in 1987, Byington Vineyard & Winery offers private tours and tastings. Tours will take visitors through the vineyards with a gorgeous view of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the production facility and the wine cave, all while learning about the history of the area and how the winery came to be. Byington also features picnic facilities with beautifully landscaped lawns and flowers, a bocce ball court and views of Monterey Bay.

Amateur historians might like to Stroll Into the Past. This Santa Clara attraction is a self-guided walking tour through the city's history. Walkers will follow the brightly-colored banners through 28 historic stops ranging from the Native American settlement to the Center of Technology Innovation. Agriculture, immigration and transportation history is also featured along the trail.

Touring a new city isn't complete without a little dining and shopping and Santana Row offers just that. Well-known upscale stores such as BCBG Max Azaria and Gucci as well as smaller specialty shops are dotted throughout the fine dining of the area. Sushi, Indian, Mexican and Italian foods are available at Santana Row as well as plenty of bars and other eateries. Relax in one of several massage spas or nail salons or take in some entertainment by enjoying one of the establishment's many events such as jazz nights and summer movies.

Theatre Works will bring out everyone's artistic side. Founded in 1970 and one of the state's largest theaters, the establishment hosts festivals and writer's workshops throughout the year. Patrons that prefer to watch and not participate can enjoy classical music concerts, Tony-Award winning plays, musicals and ballet.
