Getting In, Getting Around Scottsdale

Scottsdale is located along Arizona State Route 101, which provides access to nearby Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, and other cities in the metro area. The speed limit on Route 101, as well as on many city streets, has been enforced since February 2007 by photo radar.

As the world's sixth busiest airport, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is the aviation hub for the Scottsdale/Phoenix area. Sky Harbor is serviced by 23 major airlines and three commuter airlines, providing more than 1,500 arrivals and departures daily. In 2005, Sky Harbor broke its own record for the third year straight with the number of passengers traveling through the airport at a total of 41 million - a 4.3% increase over 2004. In order to accommodate this influx of passengers, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has completed a number of major improvements, with several more underway. The city is also home to Scottsdale Municipal Airport, a single-runway airport with over 500 operations per day. While the airport serves some tour and commuter flights, the plurality of aircraft operations are transient general aviation traffic.

When driving in Scottsdale, be aware they use photo radar cameras. The residents know where the cameras are, and will slam on their brakes as they approach the cameras, then speed up after they pass the range. There are 3 types of cameras. First, on the freeways. These are simply to keep the speed reasonable. Second, or van cameras. These are mobile vans, parked on the side of the road. These are harder to spot because they move locations regularly, and park conspicuously. There are also fixed cameras at popular intersections that monitor both speed, and red light running.

Scottsdale Trolley, a free downtown shuttle for tourists and shoppers, operates every 10 minutes, seven days a week, 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., year-round (No Trolley service on New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas.)
