West Lake Information

When you are visiting Ohio and looking for some things to do in Northern Ohio, check out the city of West Lake. Located on the Northern border of Ohio, West Lake is on the shore of Lake Erie, just a couple miles West of Cleveland.

The city of West Lake, Ohio was originally settled in 1810 as a part of the previously settled Dover Township. West Lake went through a number of name changes including Bay Village and Olmstead Township. In 1940 it was given the name of West Lake to eliminate any confusion with the town of Dover, Ohio. In 1957, the village of West Lake officially became a city.

West Lake is a city of many cultures with many different nationalities calling the area home. As of the year 2,000 the population of West Lake was over 31,000 people. The city has been the home of many notable citizens including professional sports stars Grady Sizemore, Scot Pollard and Phil Dawson among many other. Among other things, the city of West Lake is known for having one of the best school districts in the country.

West Lake offers a number of exciting activities and attractions that you can enjoy, including the Plidco Pipeline Museum, the Lee Hayden Art Gallery, the Limpert Winery, Crocker Park Stadium and much more. The Weston House in West Lake is one of the cities historic landmarks. Built in 1844, the sandstone house was built of sandstone blocks that were two feet thick and thick hewn timbers. The home had a number of owners over the years, including George Weston, founder of Weston Foods. The home was finally turned over to the city to be used as a museum by George Westons great granddaughter, Alice Ladanyi.

West Lake, Ohio is also known for its family environment and business friendly atmosphere. The city has a number of great dining establishments for you to enjoy during your visit, including A&J's Grill, Aladdin's Eatery, the Brio Tuscan Grill and many more.
